In our research we investigate the papers indexed in Scopus that have been published for the last five years to find the images of Siberia popular in the international electronic scientific discourse. We have found that most international publications are connected with natural sciences (more than 70%), only about 20% of publications are linked with the social and human sciences, and less than 10% belong to other areas of expertise. We have compared the images acquired from these publications with the results of the focus group conducted at Tomsk State University that gave us the local residents’ perception of Siberia. We have found that the images popular with the domestic and international scholars are different. Some images obvious for the local residents are not very popular with the international researchers. These images can be used to create a new positioning strategy for Siberia to attract the international scholars to this region.
